Conservation Programs

Save our Water Logo Rancho Mirage sponsors several environmental programs focused on providing sustainable tips, resources & information targeted at moving our city towards a more sustainable eco-friendly city. I would like to draw your attention to two special programs aimed at assisting both you and the City in reducing water consumption during the current water shortage:

  • Weather-Based Irrigation Controller Program The City of Rancho Mirage has partnered with the Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) to offer residents Weather-Based Irrigation Controllers at a significantly reduced cost, while supplies last. This joint effort is intended to help you and the City increase efficiency in landscape water use, reduce groundwater consumption, and eliminate street water run-off.

Weather-based irrigation controllers self-adjust based on historical weather data, watering lawns less in the cooler months and more in the summer months. Homeowners using the weather-based controllers experience varied amounts of water savings, depending on the amount of water being wasted prior to installation. On average, homeowners can expect to use 30% less water, which will help preserve the valley's precious groundwater and result in lower monthly water bills.

Interested residents can visit the water district's website at www.cvwd.org for more information. Use this link to download the application and obtain a full list of eligibility requirements, program terms and conditions.

  • Energy Efficiency Starter Kit Program The California Public Utilities Commission in conjunction with Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) are sponsoring a special program whereby customers of SoCalGas can receive an Energy Efficiency Starter Kit AT NO COST, while supplies last. The kit includes three faucet aerators and a low-flow showerhead to help you save energy and water. These devices allow air to enter into the water stream, maintaining a high-pressure flow while reducing water usage.

To request your no-cost Energy Efficiency Starter Kit, please visit this SoCalGas company website link to complete and submit the special request form.
